Condensed Courses & Student Achievement

This project examines condensed course formats in a state community college system and estimates their effects on academic outcomes, with attention to adult learners and underrepresented students.

Research question

How do shorter course formats affect course success, credit accumulation, persistence, and achievement across different groups of community college students?

Why it matters

Condensed formats may offer flexibility and faster progress for working and adult learners, but institutions need evidence about who benefits and whether accelerated schedules create new risks or reduce existing barriers.

About the project

The study uses quasi-experimental methods to compare students in condensed and traditional course formats and to examine heterogeneous effects across learner groups.
