Graduate Student Researcher

Jinwon Kim

Jinwon is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine. He is working with Dr. Di Xu in the Higher Education Research Analysis Lab (HERA Lab) and Dr. Renzhe Yu in the AEQUITAS Lab. His research focuses on learning analytics, educational data mining, and AI in education. Using large-scale learning management system (LMS) and administrative data, he examines how course design and student engagement shape academic outcomes in postsecondary education. His recent work examines instructors’ AI policies and instructional adaptations in response to the growing use of generative AI, as well as students’ perceptions of these instructional changes and their learning experiences. Prior to UCI, he received B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Korea University. Additionally, he has work experience as a data scientist, working on projects that aim to promote college students’ academic engagement and well-being through learning analytics and AI algorithms.
